Extracurricular Activities 2022

A visitor walking through Craighouse on any afternoon will witness the very rich and varied programme of extracurricular afternoon activities on offer to our pupils.

In Primary, children might be enrolled in flamenco, cricket, art with recycling, choir, or creation of urban kitchen gardens, to mention just a few.
In Middle and Senior youngsters can choose from a great variety of activities, including chess, fusion band, theatre in English, debating, digital journalism, among many others. On average the school runs upwards of 40 extracurricular activities per Year.

Extracurricular activities are led by Craighouse staff members or recognised experts in the specific fields. Workshops leaders are highly committed to helping children and young people discover, enjoy and develop their interests, talents and skills.

Our community is invited to watch just how far our children have gone in their chosen extracurricular activities when towards the end of each Year we are invited to the final presentations. It is often a moment when parents, pupils and school feel a great pride in themselves and all they have achieved.

Its only purpose is to help pupils in their development as human beings, helping them to face the problems and pressures of today´s world, through yoga and meditation.

Taekwondo

Korean martial art by which people train both physically and mentally. Lessons take place in an atmosphere of discipline and respect. At this age, pupils still need to improve their coordination, and they begin to work with memorisation which they master through combined movements. There is greater emphasis on moral values, learned by means of examples and games specifically oriented towards these goals. Pupils are better prepared to acquire physical techniques and they are able to understand the values of Taekwondo, which are explained to them verbally. They are then capable of carrying out missions such as showing at home and at school positive attitudes that are later discussed in class. These lessons of respect and discipline motivate them to perform these gestures as a natural form of behaviour.
