National Environment Day

National Environment Day

You can see the pictures below.

On Wednesday 2nd October Craighouse School celebrated National Environment Day with different activities in each section.

In the reception playground we installed an art gallery with international works depicting the protection of the environment. Meanwhile, the Spanish Department of the Primary Section presented a number of projects that dealt with the origin of paper and how it is made.

In the Middle and Senior dining hall we had a panel of experts led by Senior pupils who discussed sustainable development, circular economy, environmental law, the protection of north Patagonian lakes, COP 25, sustainable architecture and municipal and ministerial programmes for climate action. The panel included several renowned experts of the environmental field, some of whom were: Victoria Álamos (Environmental Director of the Lo Barnechea Municipality), Diego Riveaux (Ministerial Regional Secretary of the Environment), Gustavo Guerra (País Circular), Fernando Coz (Director of Chile Lagos Limpios Foundation), Manuel Novoa (Founder of Biourban), Grisele Cavieres (Post-doctorate in Ecophysiology) and Victoria Galleguillos (Specialist on Environmental Law form Universidad de Chile).

While each section held different environmental activities, three recycling points were inaugurated, one in each section. School authorities and members of the Lo Barnechea Municipality played a fundamental role in this new green project that we have been working on since last year. The construction of the recycling points was possible thanks to the generous donation made by the Parents’ Association. Additionally, the Bendito Residuo company, with whom we recently formed an alliance, will be disposing of our waste in different recycling plants.

On Friday, 4th October the Pre-Primary Section took part in an important reforestation campaign where each class planted native species in our green areas. Some of these species were peumo, boldo, and quillay. This project was another contribution made by the Parents’ Association and NGO Eco Viveros Carbono Cero.

A big thank-you to the Environmental Education team for organising the activities and making this a special day for each of our pupils.
