Happy Birthday, Chile! Craighouse celebrates Chilean traditions

During the first week of September, our school joyfully celebrated Día de la Chilenidad, an occasion in which all three sections paid tribute to Chilean traditions and culture. Assemblies were held in Primary, Middle and Senior, where pupils, dressed in traditional costumes, filled the spaces with joy through folk dances. In addition, the school playgrounds came alive with traditional Chilean games and competitions.

In the Primary Section, the week began on Monday with a very special assembly commemorating the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral’s Nobel Prize. On Tuesday, 2nd September, we warmly welcomed parents, who attended the Sports Hall to see their children performing cuecas and other typical dances. On Wednesday, 3rd September, the community enjoyed the much-anticipated Chilean Fair, organised by parent volunteers, which featured performances, activities and games.

In the Middle Section, the celebration took place on Thursday, 4th September. Pupils performed traditional folk dances and took part in various activities prepared by their tutors and subject teachers, reinforcing cultural learning in a festive atmosphere.

Finally, in the Senior Section, the activities took place on Tuesday, 2nd September. The day began with an early morning assembly, followed by classroom activities that included a breakfast with traditional Chilean food and games. At midday, pupils organised the International Fair, with stands showcasing history, traditions and tastings of flavours from around the world.

These celebrations reflect the spirit of community and pride in our roots, while also fostering respect for and appreciation of cultural diversity at Craighouse School.

 

¡Feliz cumpleaños Chile! Craighouse celebra las tradiciones chilenas

Durante la primera semana de septiembre, nuestro colegio celebró con entusiasmo el Día de la Chilenidad, una instancia en la que las tres secciones rindieron homenaje a las tradiciones y a la cultura criolla. Se realizaron assemblies en Primary, Middle y Senior, donde los alumnos, vestidos con trajes típicos, llenaron de alegría los espacios con danzas folclóricas. Además, los patios del colegio se animaron con juegos y competencias tradicionales chilenas.

En la Sección Primary, la semana comenzó el lunes con un assembly muy especial dedicado a conmemorar los 80 años del Premio Nobel de Gabriela Mistral. El martes 2 de septiembre, recibimos con mucha alegría a los apoderados, quienes asistieron al Sports Hall para ver a sus hijos e hijas bailar cuecas y otras danzas típicas. El miércoles 3, la comunidad disfrutó de la esperada Feria Chilena, organizada por apoderados voluntarios de la sección, que contó con presentaciones, actividades y juegos. 

En la Sección Middle, la celebración se realizó el jueves 4 de septiembre. Los alumnos presentaron bailes folclóricos y participaron en distintas actividades organizadas por sus tutores y profesores de asignatura, reforzando así el aprendizaje cultural en un ambiente festivo.

Finalmente, en Senior las actividades tuvieron lugar el martes 2 de septiembre. La jornada comenzó con un assembly temprano, seguido de actividades en clases con un desayuno con comida y juegos típicos. Al mediodía, los alumnos organizaron la Feria Internacional, con stands ofreciendo la historia, tradiciones y degustaciones de sabores del mundo. 

Estas celebraciones reflejan el espíritu de comunidad y el orgullo por nuestras raíces, al mismo tiempo que fomentan el respeto y la valoración de la diversidad cultural en Craighouse School.

 

The entire community takes part in “Solidarity Week 2025”

Between 11th and 29th August, our school was filled with energy and commitment as we celebrated Solidarity Week 2025: “We care for one another”. Throughout these days, pupils took part in solidarity challenges, shared inspiring messages and enjoyed group activities that strengthened our sense of community, teamwork and empathy.

The campus was decorated with colours and concepts that highlighted the importance of our values, which were also reflected in six models of solidarity badges: kindness, diversity, gratitude, shine, hope, and grow. Funds raised during the week will be used to support the Senior Section Summer Voluntary Work 2026.

One of this year’s highlights was the participation of several foundations from the Lo Barnechea community, who joined us as exhibitors in our Solidarity Fair, further enriching the experience for the whole school community.

 

Toda la comunidad participa en la “Semana Solidaria 2025”  

Entre el 11 y el 29 de agosto, nuestro colegio se llenó de energía y compromiso para dar vida a la Semana Solidaria 2025: “Nos cuidamos entre todos”. Durante estas jornadas, los alumnos participaron en desafíos solidarios, compartieron mensajes inspiradores y disfrutaron de actividades grupales que fortalecieron el espíritu de comunidad, el trabajo en equipo y la empatía.

El campus se vistió de colores y conceptos que recordaban la importancia de nuestros valores, los mismos que dieron forma a seis modelos de chapitas solidarias: amabilidad (kindness), diversidad (diversity), gratitud (gratitude), brilla (shine), esperanza (hope) y crecer (grow). Los fondos recaudados a lo largo de la semana se destinarán a financiar los Trabajos Voluntarios de Verano 2026 de la Sección Senior.

Una de las grandes novedades de este año fue la participación de distintas fundaciones de la comuna de Lo Barnechea, que se sumaron como expositores en nuestra Feria Solidaria, enriqueciendo la experiencia de toda la comunidad escolar.

 

Craighouse School shines in ABSCH tournaments with talent and sporting spirit

During August, our pupils took part in high-level sporting events, representing Craighouse School with pride and discipline in different tournaments organised by the Association of British Schools in Chile (ABSCH).

On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th August, our athletes achieved an outstanding performance in the ABSCH Athletics Tournament, held at Trebulco School. The results reflect their dedication and talent: Senior Boys and Year 8 Boys secured first place; Year 8 Girls and Intermediate Boys took second place; while Senior Girls came fourth and Intermediate Girls finished in sixth place.

In addition, on Wednesday 13th August, a group of our pupils proudly represented the school in the traditional ABSCH North vs. South sports encounter, hosted by Dunalastair School Valle Norte. It was a day marked by teamwork and healthy competition, where our representatives shone across several disciplines: Paula Mahuzier, Agustina Easton, and Amalia Gerszencvich in hockey; Federico Valderrama, Noe Ergas, Lucas Conejero, and Joaquín Fuentes in rugby; Isidora Easton in volleyball; and Martín Sabio, Clemente Warner, Matías Ugarte, and Tomás Weis in football.

We warmly congratulate all for their commitment, determination and sporting spirit, as well as the coaches who guided and supported them throughout these important opportunities for growth and development.

 

Craighouse School brilla en torneos ABSCH con talento y espíritu deportivo

Durante agosto, nuestros alumnos vivieron instancias deportivas de gran nivel, representando a Craighouse School con orgullo y disciplina en diferentes torneos organizados por la Asociación de Colegios Británicos en Chile (ABSCH).

El viernes 29 y sábado 30 de agosto, los deportistas tuvieron una destacada participación en el Torneo de Atletismo ABSCH, realizado en Trebulco School. Los resultados obtenidos reflejan su compromiso y talento: Senior Varones y 8º Básico Varones alcanzaron el primer lugar; 8º Básico Damas e Intermedia Varones se quedaron con el segundo puesto; mientras que Senior Damas logró el cuarto lugar e Intermedia Damas se el sexto lugar. 

Por otra parte, el miércoles 13 de agosto, un grupo de alumnos representó a nuestro colegio en el tradicional encuentro deportivo Norte vs. Sur ABSCH, realizado en Dunalastair School Valle Norte. Fue una jornada marcada por el compañerismo y la sana competencia, en la que nuestros deportistas brillaron en distintas disciplinas: Paula Mahuzier, Agustina Easton y Amalia Gerszencvich en hockey; Federico Valderrama, Noe Ergas, Lucas Conejero y Joaquín Fuentes en rugby; Isidora Easton en volleyball; y Martín Sabio, Clemente Warner, Matías Ugarte y Tomás Weis en fútbol.

Middle Section Science Fair 2025 was a great success

The Middle Section Science Fair 2025 became a true celebration of knowledge and curiosity. Our pupils impressed everyone with their research projects and experiments, which they presented with great enthusiasm to an audience of families, classmates and teachers.

The event stood out not only for the creativity and commitment of the pupils, but also for the valuable contribution of guest experts, who delivered inspiring talks in such fascinating fields as NASA, renewable energy, immunology and health.

We warmly congratulate our young scientists for their creativity and enthusiasm, and we would like to extend special thanks to the Science Department teachers for their dedication and commitment in making this fair an unforgettable experience.

 

La Feria Científica 2025 de la Sección Middle fue todo un éxito 

La Feria Científica 2025 de la Sección Middle se transformó en una verdadera celebración del conocimiento y la curiosidad. Nuestros alumnos sorprendieron con sus investigaciones y experimentos, que presentaron con entusiasmo frente a una audiencia compuesta por familias, compañeros y docentes.

El evento no solo destacó por la creatividad y el compromiso de los alumnos, sino también por la valiosa participación de expertos invitados, quienes ofrecieron charlas inspiradoras en áreas tan diversas y apasionantes como la NASA, las energías renovables, la inmunología y la salud.

Felicitamos a nuestros pequeños científicos por su creatividad y entusiasmo, y agradecemos de manera especial a los profesores del Departamento de Ciencias por su dedicación y compromiso en hacer de esta feria una experiencia inolvidable.

 

Senior Section pupils enjoy an unforgettable cultural experience in New York

Between 24th August and 4th September, 42 pupils from Year 11 and Year 12 travelled to New York, United States, to take part in the IB Diploma Cultural Arts Academic Trip 2025.

The group was led by the Director of the Arts, María Ignacia Convalía, and accompanied by Academic Director and DP Film teacher, Aymé Visconti, Head of Senior Section, Mark Cross, and teachers of Art and Music, Carolina Bellei and Andrés Chacón.

During this enriching experience, our pupils explored some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Lincoln Center, Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station and Central Park.

The itinerary also featured visits to world-renowned museums such as the MET, MoMA, Guggenheim and the Louis Armstrong Museum, where they were able to appreciate first-hand the value of art and culture in a global context. And also Broadway musicals: Aladdin, Michael Jackson and SIX.

This trip not only provided meaningful academic learning, but also offered a unique opportunity to broaden horizons, strengthen their international outlook, and experience culture at the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities.

 

Alumnos de la Sección Senior vivieron una experiencia cultural inolvidable en Nueva York

Entre el 24 de agosto y el 4 de septiembre, 42 alumnos de III y IV Medio viajaron a Nueva York, Estados Unidos, para participar en el Viaje Académico de Artes Culturales Diploma IB 2025.

El grupo fue liderado por la Directora de Artes, María Ignacia Convalía, y acompañada por la Directora Académica y profesora de Cine del IB, Aymé Visconti, el Director de la Sección Senior, Mark Cross, y los profesores de Arte y Música Carolina Bellei y Andrés Chacón.

Durante esta enriquecedora experiencia, nuestros alumnos exploraron algunos de los lugares más emblemáticos de la ciudad, como la Estatua de la Libertad, Times Square, Lincoln Center, Empire State, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station y Central Park.

El itinerario también incluyó visitas a museos de renombre mundial, entre ellos el MET, MoMA, Guggenheim y el Louis Armstrong Museum, donde pudieron apreciar de primera mano el valor del arte y la cultura en un contexto global. Y también musicales en Broadway: Aladdin, Michael Jackson y SIX.

Este viaje no solo ofreció aprendizajes académicos, sino que también representó una oportunidad única para ampliar horizontes, fortalecer la mirada internacional y vivir la cultura desde dentro de una de las ciudades más vibrantes del mundo.

 

Craighouse pupils excel at MUN Conferences

Throughout August, pupils from Craighouse School’s MUN and Debate Club enjoyed a month full of achievements and enriching experiences, taking part in two of the most important conferences in the academic calendar. DragonMUN, held on 1st and 2nd August at St. George’s College, and GryphonMUN, which took place on 22nd and 23rd August at The Grange.

At DragonMUN, our representatives took on roles of great responsibility and stood out for their leadership. Pupils Laura Iommi and Santiago Malfetano served as chairs in the INTERPOL and Security Council committees, respectively. Meanwhile, Harman Baxani received the Best Delegate award in INTERPOL, and Emilia Palominos earned an Honourable Mention in the Historical Crisis.

Participation in GryphonMUN was equally successful. Santiago Malfetano was awarded Best Delegate in the Historical Crisis; Emilia Palominos received Most Improved Delegate in CCPCJ and Harman Baxani was recognised with the same award in ECOSOC.
These results are a testament to the talent, dedication and commitment of our pupils, as well as to the value of the Model United Nations as an educational experience. Through these opportunities, participants not only deepen their understanding of UN procedures but also develop essential skills such as debating, critical thinking and effective communication.

 

Alumnos de Craighouse destacan en Conferencias MUN

Durante agosto, los alumnos del Club MUN y Debate de Craighouse School vivieron un mes lleno de logros y experiencias enriquecedoras, participando en dos de las conferencias más relevantes del calendario académico. DragonMUN, realizada el 1 y 2 de agosto en St. George’s College, y GryphonMUN, que tuvo lugar el 22 y 23 de agosto en The Grange.

En DragonMUN, nuestros representantes asumieron roles de gran responsabilidad y destacaron por su liderazgo. Los alumnos Laura Iommi y Santiago Malfetano participaron como chairs en los comités de INTERPOL y Security Council, respectivamente. En tanto, Harman Baxani recibió la distinción Best Delegate en INTERPOL y Emilia Palominos obtuvo una Honourable Mention en Historical Crisis. 

La participación en GryphonMUN fue igualmente exitosa. Santiago Malfetano fue reconocido como Best Delegate en Historical Crisis; Emilia Palominos recibió el premio Most Improved Delegate en CCPCJ y Harman Baxani fue distinguido con el mismo reconocimiento en ECOSOC.
Estos resultados son testimonio del talento, esfuerzo y compromiso de nuestros alumnos, así como del valor que tiene el Modelo de Naciones Unidas como experiencia educativa. A través de estas instancias, los participantes no sólo profundizan en el conocimiento de los procedimientos de la ONU, sino que también desarrollan habilidades fundamentales como el debate, el pensamiento crítico y la comunicación efectiva.

 

Six pupils represent Craighouse at the Round Square International Conference in Germany

Between 25th August and 5th September, a group of Year 10 and Year 11 pupils —Cristóbal Contreras, Iñigo Fernández, Josefina Pabón, Sofía Rubilar, Eveline Sabio and Julia Young— took part in the Round Square International Conference (RSIC) 2025, held in Roßleben (Germany) and organised by Klosterschule Roßleben.

The programme included academic, cultural and sporting activities. Highlights were the visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp, a tour of the Porsche facilities in Leipzig, cultural excursions to Weimar, Erfurt and Leipzig, as well as outdoor challenges such as canoeing and rowing along the River Unstrut. These experiences not only pushed participants out of their comfort zone, but also invited them to reflect on historical memory, democracy and sustainability.

Following the conference, the delegation, together with pupils from San Silvestre School (Peru), took part in a post-tour in Munich, exploring the city and visiting iconic sites such as BMW Welt, the Olympic Park, the Pinakothek der Moderne and Neuschwanstein Castle.

This international experience was a true celebration of global learning, enabling our students to strengthen friendships, broaden their worldview and gain insights that will stay with them for life, while demonstrating leadership, commitment and the core values of Craighouse School.

 

Seis alumnos representan a Craighouse en la Conferencia Internacional de Round Square en Alemania 

Entre el 25 de agosto y el 5 de septiembre, un grupo de alumnos de II y III Medio —Cristóbal Contreras, Iñigo Fernández, Josefina Pabón, Sofía Rubilar, Eveline Sabio y Julia Young— participó en la Conferencia Internacional de Round Square (RSIC) 2025, realizada en Roßleben (Alemania) y organizada por Klosterschule Roßleben. 

El programa incluyó instancias académicas, culturales y deportivas. Entre ellas, destacaron la visita al campo de concentración de Buchenwald, un recorrido por las instalaciones de Porsche en Leipzig, paseos culturales a Weimar, Erfurt y Leipzig, además de actividades al aire libre como canotaje y remo por el río Unstrut. Los participantes no sólo fueron desafiados a salir de su zona de confort, sino que también tuvieron la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre la memoria histórica, la democracia y la sostenibilidad.

Posteriormente, la delegación, junto con el colegio San Silvestre (Perú), realizó un post-tour en Múnich, donde exploraron la ciudad y visitaron lugares icónicos como el BMW Welt, el Parque Olímpico, la Pinacoteca Moderna y el Castillo de Neuschwanstein.

Esta experiencia internacional fue una verdadera celebración del aprendizaje global, que permitió a nuestros alumnos fortalecer amistades, enriquecer su mirada del mundo y vivir aprendizajes que los acompañarán para siempre, demostrando liderazgo, compromiso y los valores de Craighouse School.
