1962

At the beginning of the year Tom and Joan Darling realised that the school had surpassed even their most optimistic projections, with 382 pupils of whom 32 were boarders, and they were facing serious space issues. In July 1962 Craighouse School moved to a large mansion located in a one-thousand square-metre piece of land in Apoquindo 5412, which again proved to be too small to accommodate the increasing demand for places. The following year, 1963, saw the graduation of the first three Craighouse School pupils: David Gibson Craig-Carmichael—son of Mrs Darling’s brother Bill and Rosemary Crew; Marcelo Cornejo, and Mario Coppo. The latter had reached the highest academic standards, allowing him to go straight into medical school at the age of 16.
