Craighouse School commemorates International Women’s Day

With the participation of our Headmaster, Mr Patrick Lyons, and all Senior Section pupils and staff, Craighouse School commemorated International Women’s Day in an assembly on Tuesday, 8th March at 8.30 a.m.

Mr Mark Cross, Head of Senior, welcomed the pupils during this ceremony led by Head Girl Amanda Orchard and Head Boy Nicolás Greiber. Florencia Pichara, President of the Student Council, together with representatives Magdalena Villa and Miguel Riadi, discussed the role of women and their history in our institution. Next, a group of pupils of Year 12, Florencia Purcell and Claudia Fernández, analysed the UN Women campaign which was a subject studied in Language and Literature. Then, Senior pupils Josefa Saenz-Diez, Constanza Villamán, and Monserrat Kozak shared their Art work and a personal project, respectively. Mr Sócrates Aguilera, Head of the History and Social Studies Department, was in charge of closing the assembly.

Year 12 pupils receive their generation tie

On Wednesday, 9th March the “generation tie” ceremony was held in the Senior Section playground. Mr Mark Cross, Head of Section and the tutors of each class officially handed out the Year 12 tie to all pupils of the generation. This initiative was created by a group of pupils of the 2020 generation and ever since then it has been celebrated each year.

Middle and Senior pupils return to the labs and the Art and Music rooms

With the arrival of the pandemic and in order to minimise the risk of infection, during the whole of the 2021 school year all pupils of the Middle and Senior Sections had to stay in their own classrooms. The good news is that this year our students have been able to settle back into their pre-pandemic routines and return to the classrooms of each subject. We see how happy they are in the labs and in the Art and Music rooms, enjoying the full potential and unique opportunities offered by the Craighouse School infrastructure.

The 2021 Year 4 mural now decorates the Primary Section walls

After two years of pandemic, Craighouse School has resumed the annual tradition of the mural that Year 4 pupils leave as a legacy when they move on to the Middle Section.

The mural created by the 2021 generation of Year 4—now Year 5—decorates the Primary Section walls. The children were inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations in 2015, which were the main theme of the PYP exhibition. Each class worked with different goals and were able to capture, through art, their individual perception of what they mean for our society.

Pupils of Year 3 collect native seeds on our campus

On Friday, 11th March our Year 3 pupils collected seeds of native trees, which over the next few weeks will be planted in our school’s greenhouse. This initiative is part of a Craighouse School project whose objective is to make our institution the first carbon-negative school in Chile.
